BLOW UP

Another variation of the bondage theme are the towering blow-up sculptures. Here the curvatures extend beyond the ropes and bindings on a monumental scale, as if the sculpture had been inflated from the inside. Again it is the interplay of light in the surface undulations that interests Stephan Marienfeld so much. The vertical orientation prompts the observer to associate the sculptures in part with human forms and figures. Each sculpture takes on its own character. In the “Blow-In” variant, the figure appears to have been partially deflated again – resulting in a delightful alternation of highs and lows.

Eine weitere Spielart des Bondage-Themas sind die vertikal in die Höhe ragenden “Blow-Up”-Skulpturen. Großflächig treten hier die Wölbungen über die Schnürungen und Seile hinaus, als ob die Skulptur von innen aufgeblasen worden wäre. Wieder ist es das Spiel des Lichtes in den Wölbungen, die Stephan Marienfeld besonders interessiert. Durch die vertikale Ausrichtung assoziiert der Betrachter teils menschliche Formen und Figuren. Jede Skulptur wird zum eigenen Charakter. In der „Blow-In“-Variante erscheint es, als ob die Luft teilweise wieder heraus- gelassen wurde – ein reizvoller Wechsel von Höhen und Tiefen ist die Folge.
